🎯 Course Outcomes
Participants will:
- Understand that breakaway and self‑defence techniques are used only as a last resort, when all other options have failed
- Gain an understanding of legal considerations relating to the use of force, including:
- Common and Criminal Law
- The meaning of reasonable force
- Section 3(1) of the Criminal Law Act 1967 (defence of self and others)
- Understand how Health & Safety legislation supports safe working practice, including:
- Common‑law duty of care
- Health and Safety at Work etc. Act 1974 (Sections 2, 3, 7, and 8)
- Apply safe and effective breakaway techniques from wrist and body grabs
- Identify the quickest and safest escapes from strangulation attempts
- Use effective stance and positioning to manage punches, head‑butts, kicks, and knee strikes
- Assess and use the environment to minimise confrontation and support safe escape
- Apply the minimum level of force necessary, maintaining therapeutic and person‑centred practice at all times
